In the 18th century Latvia and the Baltic Provinces were annexed by Russia. On November 18, 1918, the independent Democratic Republic was proclaimed, and in June of 1940 occupied by Russian forces. Latvia was a member state of the Soviet Union.

Silver issue

Obverse Coat of arms. Rev. value and date. Pretty coin with bright white silver luster and a hint of attractive gold at very rim edge. One small area of red bottom obverse. A few light marks and a trace of handling keep AU, but wonderful eye appeal. Contains  5.0000 g., .835 SILVER, .1342 oz. ASW. (View image for more detail.)
